According to NASCAR News agencies, Talladega Superspeedway, home to this weekend’s Amp Energy 500, will also play host to the long awaited debut of Ford’s FR9, the company’s first purpose-built NASCAR racing engine.   Matt Kenseth and David Ragan, both of Roush Fenway Racing, will run the new engine this Sunday as Ford Motor Sports tries to light a spark on what has otherwise been a disappointing season.

NASCAR News: Johnson in Sprint Cup “Driver’s Seat” After Impressive Win at Charlotte

Many NASCAR News agencies are now reporting that Jimmie Johnson’s impressive victory at Charlotte on Saturday night has all but sealed a fourth consecutive Sprint Cup championship for the No. 48 team.  But with half of the races yet to be run, Johnson is not quite ready to buy into the hype.

NASCAR News: Johnson Takes Chase Lead with Impressive Victory in California

When the red flag appeared with six laps to go in Sunday’s race, NASCAR News agencies reported that Jimmie Johnson was a bit on edge, worried that perhaps he didn’t have quite enough car left to hold off Jeff Gordon.  But Gordon, the eventual runner-up and Johnson’s teammate, did not share in this doubt.  He simply knew that today, in this place, Johnson was just too good.

NASCAR News: RPM Leadership A Bit Muddy, Even for Kahne

According to NASCAR News, the shakeups at the top of Richard Petty Motors have many wondering just who’s calling the shots, including their top driver Kasey Kahne.

NASCAR News: Top-Five Finish not Quite Good Enough for Kyle Busch

On what should have been a night of celebration, NASCAR News agencies report that Joe Gibbs, president of Joe Gibb’s Racing, was naturally a bit conflicted.  While JGR’s Denny Hamlin and his team posted and celebrated their first ever victory at Hamlin’s home track in Richmond, Virginia at Saturday’s NASCAR Chevy Rock and Roll 400, Gibbs also coped with and shared in the disappointment of Kyle Busch.  Hamlin’s teammate, Kyle Busch, crossed in fifth, one place shy of qualifying for the 12th and final spot in the Chase.  “It was a difficult night,” admitted Gibbs, “but hey, when you got kids, sometimes one’s going through a tough time and the other is doing well.  You kind of sit on both sides of the fence.”

NASCAR News: Milestones Achieved, Tempers Flare

Kyle Busch won the Saturday night race at Bristol Motor Speedway, sweeping the event for the first time since his brother did it in 2003, NASCAR News agencies report.  This win effectively has saved the #18 driver’s season, at least for the moment.  Busch now sits 34 points away from 12th place with two races to go before the Chase for the Sprint Cup begins.  The night again belonged to the #5 Kellogg’s driver “Old Man” Mark Martin, who celebrated his 1000th career start with a second place finish.
